Rear Top latch

Has anyone used this kit? I can't seem to make it work on my 87 z28 vert.

14643 - 1987-88 Camaro / Firebird Convertible Tonneau Cover Latch Upgrade.

Mine uses 2 linkage rods and a y pivoting bracket that moves the latch.

Thanks

Re: Rear Top latch

Hi,
I know this is an old post, but was wondering if you ever found a solution for the latch. I have the same 2 rod setup and all I can find are these "upgrade" kits and see the negative experiences with them. I just want the original setup if possible. Mine fell apart. Thanks!

Re: Rear Top latch

Hawks sells the "upgrade" but its just the later cable type used on 89-up f-bodies. I don't believe the linkage type is being reproduced, but dont quote me on that.

Re: Rear Top latch

89-up already have the cable. I think only 87, 88 use the linkage style.

Re: Rear Top latch

My 88 was missing the linkages completely... So I did install the cable style kit. Previous owner just reached behind the seat to unlatch each time.

The kit installed fine .. just didn't have anything to secure the cable with.... My 89 had cable clamps to hold the cable in place but it flops around in the 88... Putting some in I got online ...

I did have to do some playing around to get the plate to secure properly to the tonneau.... And I did powdercoat mine black... It came in raw aluminum.
