Front latch guide pin covers- do they exist or are they unicorns?
My car only had metallic nubs aligning the front of the top (bow 1) to the top rail frame/windshield header and they aren't long enough for the hold down latches to hold solidly so I figured mine were just missing. However, after a lot of key word searching, I cannot locate a pic of these anywhere and have not found any reference to them in any manuals- but I think they are supposed to be on there.
Re: Front latch guide pin covers- do they exist or are they unicorns?
How long are the nubs?My Original 89 Top latches had like 2 stubs on them.I put a different pair on that had nice long posts to go into the mounting hole on the windshield header part
Re: Front latch guide pin covers- do they exist or are they unicorns?
Tootie...These were the ones I replaced on my 89 iroc convertible.Big difference.Notice how small the nubs are.I had the same problem as you did.
I have Top latches available with the long posts if your interested

If I may..............on my '89 IROC Vert, the passenger side front bow locating PIN, and front BOW, is approx. 1/4- 3/8 inch, too far back, when the top meets the windshield header. It makes it difficult to latch.
Where and how is this adjusted? Is the whole top out of position, or minor adjustment. Thanks.

When i installed my top that was something you needed to watch for, so when you trim the material you dont make it too tight, you cant latch the top down. I dont believe there is an adjustment for it.Its more due to how tight the top was trimmed. I noticed mine has gotten a bit easier as the top wears in/loosen up from usage.
Here is a pic of my pin/s.Also an 89, stock parts. The whole thing is around 1", but the tapered part is 3/4.

What the h*ll were these morons thinking?! Also, the replacement latches are of far higher quality and have detents and locking tabs. My originals were apparently from Harbor Freight.

Thanks. I briefly read the Factory Shop Manual (FSM) and it said something about an adjustment, but I did not know where they were referring to. I did not go further, as I am not ready to replace the really bad top, at this time.

I wonder if thats a carry over from the earlier 87-88 tops, since the brace on the header that pin goes into is of a different deisgn.

My 89 latches were the exact same as yours.Always had a hard time latching them.Luckily I replaced mine 3 months after I got the car.Over the past 13 years since I got my vert Ive parted at least 15 junkyard convertibles and they all had the longer studs on the latches.
