ASC tonneu covers without drivers side notch ?

Hi all,

I was just sitting thinking back on when I bought my vert 22 years ago, in 1998. At that time it had the original black piece on the tonneu cover, but it was badly sun warped, so I replaced it with a NOS piece I found on ebay.
However, the stock piece that was on there had no notch in it on the drivers side where the release lever is on most of these cars. Mine doesn't have one and never did, hence no notch

But it just occurred to me that I had never seen another one of the early (1986/87) conversions without the release lever. I've always had to fold the rear seat back and release the cover directly by the handle,
Also, out of all the pics of these cars that I have seen over the years - I have never seen one where this black piece on the tonneu cover was sun warped. The piece that was on there originally on mine seemed to be made by a slightly different material than the one I replaced it with.

So I was wondering if any of you have or have seen one without the release lever ?

I have a 1991 Camaro vert . I assume you are talking about the cable pull that releases the rear pin hold down on the top it's self.
If so I have never seen one that did not have it. Some also have the tonneu solenoid release switch in that same area , which I wish I had, but mine is on the console. Yours might be a very early car they did.

My 87 Iroc convertible does NOT have a release handle either. My Camaro is a ASC conversion; a “special edition”. That’s probably the difference. BTW, I need a new parade boot for my 87 WITHOUT the notch cut out, so if anyone knows of one, I’d be interested. Hawks was selling a reproduction parade boot, but not at the moment.

Cool! Just for comparison - would you mind taking a picture of your tonneu cover, both top and bottom side ? I'll do the same on mine and post shortly.
