New to Thirdgen convertible.....I bought 92 Firebird convertible top with frame to fit on my 89 Camaro.
The top fits when closed but when opening and folding into rear compartment it doesn’t fit over rear seats.
I tried folding rear seats down and top does fit in with some force past rear interior side panels but then the rear seats will not be able to go back to lock-in position.
Has anyone had same experience? Could this be adjusted?

 

I think thats somewhat common.My old top would fold down with no issues at all, but the new top brushes the seatback/side panels slightly more than id like it to, but still fits with barely an extra push to fold it all the way down.

 

Ok, I guess what I needed was reassurance that the 92 Firebird top could/should work the same on 89 Camaro

There were minor changes to the frame/top over the years, 3 versions. The first version differs from the later two and wont work due to the front latches.92 to 89 should be fine, but don't quote me on that.

 

The latches, rear pin and door moulding all work...just need to adjust clearance over back seats.

The top is in rough condition, tan was original colour but it is extremely dirty...eventually I’d like to dye it Black. The rear window is brittle and cracked with large hole. Has anyone tried to restore a canvas/cloth top and replace plastic window?
