Just wondering if anyone has successfully removed the plastic interior trim from their tonneau lid?
it appears to be glued down. I'm planning to repaint the lid & would like to paint under the plastic trim if I can get it off.
Really don't want to break it to figure out how I should have done it.
Yes they are glued down. You will most likely crack it if you try to remove it, but it is repairable.
I taped mine off very tightly and it came out great.
I for sure don't want to risk breaking it, so I guess I'll have to choose my poison.
I dislike the idea of spraying up to it, but looking like I might have too
Also noticed the original scuff protection tape was tucked underneath that plastic as well,
so clearly that tape was installed before the plastic trim was Glued on.
are you referring to the black part? yes many of us have removed it. one screw and the rest is glued down
I did find this thread which included a picture of the adhesive used underneath. I tried to see if I could get a corner up,
but it got to a point where it felt like the plastic could break. I would be beside myself if I cracked it, so I have not gone any further.
If its made out of the same plastic as the windshield header panel I'm guessing its brittle.
its just a molded a fiberglass strand cover wrapped in vinyl. yes some are hard to remove but at least being fiberglass it is something you can repair.
also I saw Camaro Hill had a convertible recently added for parts. maybe he will sell you that lid for a reasonable price and you can remove that cover so all risk on on that one.
