Removing Tonneau plastic cover from metal panel

Hey there,
Looking to prep and paint the 88 IROC Convertible and want to do a good job... Advice from someone that might know how to remove/separate the black plastic/vinyl tonneau cover from the metal panel it is attached to?
I have done a search but no luck finding info... HELP!

Re: Removing Tonneau plastic cover from metal panel

it's glued down and would be hard to remove from the tonneau cover.

i'm in the middle of painting my vert and ended up just leaving it on and taping it off. it was being a real sob to get off without damaging it. i was able to get it loose around the edges and lift it enough to get the tonneau cover painted though.

Are you replacing the rub strip as well? Doing so will give you a small edge to use for taping off the plastic cover.

Thanks, I guess leaving it and being careful to insure good prep and get the paint mist underneath that small area is going to be the challenge...

3M sells decal remover in a spray can. You can give that a try. They also have a wheel that removes decals but not the paint.
