So - a good friend of mine in the reman business had my assembly rebuilt and tested... supposedly, it was working when it left the building.
Backstory: As it turns out, the motor is the same used in the '87 ASC sunroof package for the Toyota Supra - domestically installed. Makes sense that they would have used something readily available. The transmission housing appears to have been modified from the Supra and has a hand-engraved number on it. Said assembly STB before a honeymoon weekend getaway last summer (met said bride-copilot on 3/12/88 in it, and proposed in it on 3/12/89)
Installed it, charged up the battery, pressed the button, but only got a very slight groan - and that was it. Back to square one.
Had 12.something V +/- at the switch. Not fantastic, but should have been enough to get some reaction unloaded.
Wondering if the problem is in the bevel/worm gear in the transmission assembly, which you can see has a split. Not well shown (cos it is all re-assembled now) is that bevel gear has some small cams that perhaps handle any overloading in the closed position (?) Found a FB 3D vendor who **might** be able to take a swing at producing the gear, but I would need a good, intact example to send so we had a true good example of the cammed insert.
Guessing there might be a few engineers out there who can give testimony about the design. Don't want to completely give up on this and go to manual, but I'm searching for some insight that would crack the case, so to speak
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
