the only reason it could be like that is if you have the wrong fan. go to another autoparts store and get one, just take the one you have now back. When i bought one it just bolted on and pluged in.

ok.. I got the right motor and it is in.
But still not working. My old fan motor burned from the inside out.
Is it possible I need to replace something else? My thermostat doesn't seem to work either.

You will probably need to replace the fan relay also. What do you mean "your thermostat doesnt seem to be working"?

i had my fan wired to a manual switch and im guessing it blew the motor. what would be a good replacement fan motor to go with a manuall switch and run all of the time?

Any fan can be wired to run off of a switch, cause that's basically what the fan does. I dont suggest running the fans all the time, that's why they are on a sending unit.

If it did blow because of the wiring to a manual switch, then difinitely find out if it is a ground problem, or just poor wiring. Its not a matter of if the old fan was good enough, but the new wiring could have shorted the fan.

Since you are having a problem with your gauge, check the temp. sending unit to the gauge.

Always remember, KISS (Keep it simple, stupid **not calling you stupid, just how the saying goes**--start with the every basics, and go from there.
1. Check your fuses.
2. Check your wiring to the manual fan switch, make sure you are not over amping the fan.
3. check the sending unit to the temperature gauge. could be bad also, that's why your gauge stopped working.

Hope some of this babble helps.

Mike

ok i clipped the stock wires that went to the fan. then i wired the ground to a ground and clipped it agian to put an inline fuse to it. 15 amp. than i wired it to the accesory thingy in my fuse box. worked realy well and i know that it wasnt the fuse b/c the radio would have gone out too.

I have a tbi and there are wires everywhere I see, the wires from the electical bracket that plugs into the fan motor coming out of the wiring harness. I still don't have a clue where the fan relay is or what it looks like.

Please keep helping

to hook up a manuel switch you must tie into the wire that goes to the fan switch on the passenger side head. then you must run a wire from the wire that goes to the fan switch to the engine compartment and hook up that wire to one side of the switch and hook up the other wire on the switch to a ground.

If your gauge isn't working, check either the temp sending unit's wires or the unit itself. It's located on the drivers side right around the second spark pluge (at least on an 89 tbi v8 and an 86 tpi v8). Sometimes the plastic on the wires that clip onto the sensor breaks or cracks. If the fan isn't going on there is a fan switch on the passenger side of the car directly above the starter that the wire may be loose or the switch may be broken. Both parts are pretty cheap and you can go on partsamerica.com and see what they look like. You can check your fan switch by unplugging the wire going into it and grounding it out. With your car in the on position, that would make your fan kick on. If it doesn't then there is a connection problem in one of the wires somewhere else.

the fan switch is located in between the 6th and 8th cylinder spark plugs you will need a 20 mm wrench . you wil ahve to jack up the car or put it on ramps. I just received m fan switch from hypertech it is supposed to lower the temp in which the fan comes on. im putting it in today when i can find my 20mm wrench.

fan relays

find your fan relays just follow the wires from your fans. should be near the battery. make sure the ground from them is clean and tight. the ground wires bolt to the body. My fans were working spuraticaly and weak, sometimes perfectly. turned out the bolt holding the ground to the body was loose and corroded. I cleaned and tightened the connection, fixed my problem hope this helps. later
