Flex fan question

ok, quick question, has anyone installed a flex fan in place of the clutch fan and did it lower your water temp? Any problems with it?
My car will run about 190 deg.(185 thermostat) on the highway, however, when I get into town, it will begin to rise. I just installed a new engine with many mods so expected it to run hotter, but before I replace the radiator, I need to know if a flex fan will take care of the temp rising while at low rpm in town, and will it affect cooling at highway speeds? Any other suggestions on ways to improve this annoyance? Like I said, only a problem when cruising at city speeds.

i tried the same thing one day last summer before i swapped the 305 with a 350. it kept it about an average of 10 degrees cooler than it did with the clutch fan, but it stole ALOT of power and it makes an annoying buzzing noise when you try to rev the motor a little bit. but if you cant think of any other options, try it. hope i could help.

well, I was hoping to get a little more cooling power from it, but 10* is a start. I may just have to give in and drop the $400 or so for the radiator that I have been looking at. By the off chance that anyone reading this has used this, does the water wetter additive work?

I swapped a flex fan onto mine when I realized the stock clutch unit was losing it's fluid; it made a good difference around town. A couple months ago, I pulled it out and tossed a factory electric fan in. So far, it's been great...no drag on the engine, more power available, and better gas mileage to boot - to the order of ~25 more miles per tank. Oh, and it dropped at least 4 tenths off my previous best ET:rockon:

The flex fans seem to take less power to turn, not more power. As for more cooling, I didnt see much of a difference in my Dad's Nova. Electric is still the best way to cool.
