hood extractors on GTA made functional ?

has anyone ever heard of the hood extractors on the GTA / Trans AM hoods being made functional? i have an 89 gta and would like to make those extractors work so i can cool down the engine bay - no cowl or powerbulge =/

I've seen it done...they cut the sheet metal around the vents then placed chicken coop style wiring underneath.

that would be a pretty cool thing to do, if you can do it without a big ram bulge and not get tons of water on the MassAir sensor & shhhtuff...sounds like a good job for a roto-zip tool. In addition to making the entry functional on the front part of the hood unblock the top-side vents on the GTA hoods back near the hinge area, for hot air to vent out of the engine bay. Anything to keep the GTA cooler with A/C on in the hot summer!

Come one with some modifications, and a little tweaking of the vents, its gotta give the GTA a little more front nose down force...and maybe be good for at least a 10th or so seconds around Daytona or Talladega.....How Bad Have you got it!!

it would just be better than looking at it and knowing that they're just pretty-pieces. it'd help more if i hadn't alread deleted the A/C =D

Nope I've had no problems neither has some of the others that have done the same mod(nosaint was one of them if I remember correctly). I left the factory vents in place and cutout the hood behind the vents as in the pics.

i have done that ....that was last summer and i haven't hadaany problems since......helps it run a little cooler...i used a grinder to cut out the metal from under the louvers.....make sure you sand down the edges and paint when you are done though or the metal will rust.....

Any pictures of the hood extractors on the GTA modification? The ones previously posted are no longer viewable. I am considering installing the gta vents into a buldge induction air hood. Or somehow making the front gta vent extractors go into a ram air filter like the 4th gen. Anyone do this or have pictures?

Re: hood extractors on GTA made functional ?

I have been thinking of doing this with my '85 T/A. My thought was to use the front ones for air-intake and build a "Tray" with a rectangular filter underneath them sort of like the IROC has. This will be a sort of "Ram-air" setup. Havent started it yet, though....
