mine's a little different

Hi all,
Hope you can help me with what is happening to my car.
It's an '89 firebird formula with k&n, no cat. It runs great and is a real strong runner. The issue I'm having is that it heats up as soon as I take it on the highway. I can drive it as hard as I want in the city, sit in traffic all day and it will sit at about 200F. Soon as I take it up to 60mph or so it starts to rise. It gets up to 240 to 260 and then if I exit the highway and get back to city driving it drops right back to 195 or so. There is no way it can cool down as quick as that. Hoping somebody out there can help me.
thanks

WOW that is the exact oppisite of what every other car does.
I would check lower air vailance to make sure air is blowing on your radiator. also get all the bugs out of your radiator that will help.

I am inclined to agree. I noticed that same problem one day on an old back country road. I pulled into someone's gravel drive and as soon as I did, I heard the front valance rub the rocks. I tied it back up until I could get home, (this helped the temperatures about 30 degrees). I then went to the parts store and bought some brackets and corresponding screws and remounted it. I haven't had the problem since.:lala:

thanks guys,
I will try that on Saturday and see what happens. I went through all the posts and they all say heats up in traffic and what not. Luckily mine stays right on 195 to 210 even in standstill traffic. Hope it is that easy of a fix.
thanks
Scott
