Simmer down now

i have an 85 t.a. and just put a 350 bout a month ago in it and its to hot for my liking.. and i was wondering if im getting good enough circulation with my waterpump and radiator and all.. my waterpump was new and my radiator i dont remember if i bought it new or got it when i put the motor together . but last night when i got off work i was sick of not being able to drive the 30 miles that it takes to work cause it would overheat. i also had gotton a serpentine belt sys on it and a buddy of mine was just tellin me at work that allot of my prob possibly could be my pullys if they werent the stock size. is that true? i dont remember wich set i got either but they look pretty nice...lol well anyways last night i had completely took out the thermostate then tried drivin up the block some and just to see if my block would be cool enough to drive to work.. i had assumed that when i took it out that it wouldnt even warm up to any optimal running temp. as i drove up the road after lettin the car idle for bout 10 - 15 mins the car still got up to bout 225. and that didnt sound right to me at all. now is that and obvious circulation prob or not i wasnt sure. i didnt give it a chance to go up any more if it was goin to .. before i got back home.. now is there somethin seriously wrong with that. it sux... please help...... thanx

if I'm not mistaken, the serpentine system requires a reverse rotation water pump because of the routing of the belts. if you have a standard ratation pump then you may not be circulation the fluid properly. also check you air dam and the fan(s) to make sure they are running.

I'm pretty sure the reverse rotation water pump is for a reverse cooled system. Our pumps are standard rotation.

reverse pumps are NOT for reverse cooling systems, the v-belt setup turns the pump a different way then serpentine belt setup

Ok k that's why I said 'pretty sure' I've never actually checked that out. Thanks for clearing that up Mr.Moderator

ok well my fan is hooked up to switch power .. and ill post a pic of the belts maybee you guys could let me know whether or not its turning the waterpump the right way..

now if it was turning the wrong way wouldnt it be backwards as far as circulation goes? the top hose of the radiator is hotter than the bottom wich sounds right to me.

while i had the car runnin i was able to squeeze on the top hose no prob.. but with no thermostat shouldnt it feel full like a garden hose when its on? i was just wonderin.. also can anyone tell if my pulleys are bigger or smaller than stock just buy the pic? someone told me that could also be a prob it it were...
thanx

Water pumps are made to turn only one way. If you reused your water pump from your 85, then it is a standard rotation pump which means that it needs to turn clockwise. There is a good possibility that it is not with the serpentine setup. So if you're belt is turning your waterpump pulley counter clockwise, you need to make sure that you have a reverse rotation pump.
