Car turns off fan won't , why?
I've got a 91 Z28 w/350/auto. My question is my fan runs all the time. It won't shut off when I shut the car off. I now have to disconnect the battery when I park it. Is it possible that even though it's controled by the ecm, that there is a relay downstream from that? If there is could it be stuck shut (contacted). Where would the relay be located at? I looked it up in the Haynes manual, my car is a G92 car, I assume that means heavy duty cooling system right? Not much info in the book other than a wiring diagram showing a always "hot" 12v line w/ a fuseable link, and then a heavy duty relay, followed by, you guessed it.....the promary ccoling fan. PLEASE HELP SAVE ME!!!! I HATE POPPING MY HOOD ALL THE TIME! It makes me look like I have a POS when I go to a store or resturaunt and I have to disconnect the battery first.

im not sure about Camaros, but on my GTA, the two fan relays are located on the passenger side, one next to the radiator, one on the fender..
the secondary fan isn't controlled by the ECM. its controlled by a fan switch. so unless both fans are set to come on together..
But i bet it has something to do with the wiring.. Im working on a tech article that will have all that stuff in it..

Thanx, let me know when your done with that article. I'd definitely like to check it out. Any one else help me at all? Any other possibilities?
The relays on later camaros are next to the brake booster on the firewall. I think the primary cooling fan is the farthest one on the left (passenger side). The one in the middle is the fuel pump relay, and the one on the right (drivers side) is the secondary cooling fan.
sounds like someone may have grounded the fan!!
so basically they have the always hot +12v that goes to the fan and the heavy duty black (ground) connected to complete the circuit thus the fan is on alllll the time.
i had a similar problem with my car the passengers side fan would come on and stay on when i would just turn the car on, and that turned out the the fan switch got burnt up somehow and grounded itself.

I want to thank all who replied, especially breathment, and 92RSB4C. I did'nt know where the relay was for starters and the diagrams were of serious help. Reconnected the battery and the fan started as usual. Then I tapped the relay and guess what? After about 3-4 taps the fan stopped running. Diagnosis: stuck relay. It's intermitent though, but that did'nt stop me from replacing it. 9.99 at auto zone. Sorenson MR44. BIG THANX GUYS!!!!!!
