testing water pump

is there a way of testing water pump with it in the car other than squeasing the upper radiator hose. I have done that and i cannot feel that much pressure in the hose. Does the hose at that point flow out of the engine or is that an intake to the engine. Also i put my finger in the radiatio and plugged the hose that is coming in the top by the fill hole and once again not much pressure. Should there be alot of pressure at this point or not. Thanks Richard

oh the engine is a 305TBI all stock.

i think if your car has been sitting for a few hours, u can take the rad cap off and then start the car and see if you have good movement.

well once the thermostat opens up there should be good flow through the bottom hose in the rad and the top hose..
