Freeze Plug Went?

Hey guys,
I have a slow anti freeze leak behind the engine and in front of the transmission. ITs right between. My neighbor says thats my freeze plug (well one of them) going on me. He says the transmission has to be yanked to get to it. He also says that if it has been running hot (which it has) this will fix it because it will be able to run cooler due to more pressure in the coolant system. I was running at 240 tonight TONIGHT that is. Not even in the day. Help me out here. THanks. P.S. Radiator works, coolant was just flushed and refilled, and the temp sending unit works because when i start the car it jumps to the red like it is supposed to. Fan works also, am not concerned with that at all.

it sounds like your neighbor is on the right track, there are at least two freeze plugs behind the flywheel and one of them may be leaking, he is right that the tranny has to be pulled to replace the plug. if its a small leak you may be able to use some of that radiator stop-leak to seal it (I personally don't like the stuff), but its up to you. as far as fixing the running hot issue, it may help a little because the cooling system relies on pressure to keep the boiling point higher on the fluid.

Thanks alot dude. Maybe I can try the stop a leak stuff. I hope that doesn't hurt my radiator and all, but this leak must be pretty bad if it makes my temp jump, UNLESS, hmm maybe my water pump is taking a dump on me. You never know. Either way this is gonna be bad on the wallet

slow leak? could be a cracked block too... Even though it sucks if its one of the rear freeze plugs, it'll still be a ton better than replacing the block. Good luck!

Right, there are 2 of them in there. Don't waste your time on the Stop-Leak: the plug is about 1¾" diameter, and what happens is they rust through from the back; so before you know it you'll end up with about a 1" hole there, which is a bit large to expect Stop-Leak to work on.

The leak by itself won't cause your car to run hot, but being low on coolant sure will....
