The orifice tube...

Air conditioner not putting out very cool.....took it to a shop and they tell me I need a new compressor (and of course accumulator/dryer and orifice tube) which must be replaced BEFORE they will top off with R-12 ('bout pound and a half low) They want in area of 7 to 900+ to do it. No way, went to Autozone picked up a Reman compressor for 99.99, new accumulator for 29.99 and orifice tube for 1.99 (that one nearly broke me..... )

Also picked up 134 retro kit...

My question (FINALLY) is where does the orifice tube get installed? I think it is in the evaperator input....but not sure...

Anyone shed some light on this?

TIA

i think when u take the dryer off, i THINK you will see the old one. Im just not sure how to get it off, i never could pull mine out when i was messing with it. but i didn't try too hard.

Just make sure to have that r-12 removed professionaly..
also do u have the equipment to do the charge urself?

thanks for the reply breathment...I found it...

It is in the high side line going in to the bottom of the evaporator.....have to grab it with a pair of needle nose and pull fairly hard because it has an o ring sealing it in....

mine was all kinds of cruded up.....little bits of what looked like very thin vinyl

yes the r-12 was removed 'professionally' ....

nearly done with the parts replacement....know someone that has a vacuum pump ...will use it to pull a vacuum and then he will charge it I have a 134 retrofit kit...valve adapters, oil, etc etc.....

got the compressor on, accumulator, orifice tube, ran some flush through, etc....

again, thanks...

bought some at autozone.....they also have a tool you can rent from them (at least mine did) to flush it out....couldn't use it cause some guy had it rented out for several days.....

dumped some in to the lines and used my 'shop' compressor to blow air thru.......had to open ;ine on the bottom of the evaporator...which is a good thing 'cause that's where i found the orifice tube...

also going to open high side where it leaves the condensor so i can blow it out......
