Overheating Problem
Overheating Problem
A few weeks ago i posted that i was leaking anti-freeze. Then i replaced the heater control valve. Then a few days later, my car started to overheat, spewing coolant and boiling water out of the rad cap. I brought into shop they replaces rad hoses, and heater control core. Now a few weeks later once again im having problems. I was leaving my friends house when all of a sudden i had like no acceleration. I looked down at my speed and rpm and noticed the temp. It was all the way to the right, way past 260. The fan was on, the water was bubbling and boiling in the reserve, but nothing spilt out. I went home let it cool off more, emptied reserve and put new coolant in. The rad is full, the tank is upto proper spot, yet still the car after a few mins of driving is getting past the 260 mark. SO once again I popped the hood, and looked around.
didn't all fit
felt the rad cap (cool), felt the reserve (cool), felt rad (cool), felt top of engine (cool), felt the hose goin from rad to engine (VERY VERY VERY HOT), touched bottom of engine (was a redish color...VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY HOT!!).
My only guess is that the thermostat is off and is not allowing the coolant to go into the engine or whatnot?
I am goin to the shop tommorrow early to have them look at it, what do you all think?

This is a tough one because there is a possibility it is not the cooling system with the problem but something else in the engine.
However if it is the cooling system it sounds like it is not fully primed with coolant. This is common and can happen after a system is refilled. The Camaro system has to heat an cool a few times to self prime. Also it has to have a good radiator cap.
From all the symptoms you describe it sounds like the radiator cap was the original problem too. If your engine got as hot as you describe though, you will need to check for oil consumption.
