puddles of coolant from lower hose. pump?

ok i just put in a 180 degree stat. when i did this i found the previous owner did not have one installed at all. then next day, wtf, theres coolant all over the ground after running the car for a bit.

the coolant is on the lower radiator hose, coming from above around where the pump would be i guess. the hose does not seem to be bursted or anything i can tell. but shoot, its hard to get under this car its so low to the ground its tough to see where the leak is REALLY coming from.

ive read about these weep holes and im thinking maybe thats it? perhaps actually having a stat threw my car out of equilibrium and more pressure busted my pump? i dunno what do you guys think?

is there a way to "feel" where these holes are or where exactly are these weep holes? if they were leaking would my coolant still be flowing? how should i be diagnosing this problem? the haynes manual says the weep holes only bleed a little but ive lost quit a bit of coolant in just a little driving seems to be a steady stream.

THANKS!

well start simple first. u just replaced a themostat. what kinda gasket did u put on? and did u clean the other one off pretty good? i would make sure that ur not leaking from the gasket or the hose that goes to the therm. housing..

yeah theres no leak from the stat area as far as i can tell. i used the paper gasket and this stuff called Goodstuff as well. im pretty sure there is no leak from that area and especially one leaking this much. also the last gasket stuff was just red stuff and all came off no problem.

Ok, if you sure that the thermostat isn't leaking then the next thing that I'd check would be the pump. If you can't get under the car, grab a small hand mirror. From there what you can do is start and run the car untill it starts to leak. From there shut it down and put the mirror right under the water pump. From there you can see the weep hole and see if it's leaking. Most likly if the coolant is coming off of the lower hose, you have apump going bad or a leak up higher. Also, make sure everything is cleaned an dry. That will make looking for a wet spot much easier.

thanks for the mirror tip- i was able to see a couple centimeter long tears in the lower hose up near the pump where the leak was. napa didnt have any with the spring in it but the one they had seemed fairly stiff so i used that one. fixed! back in action

thanks again...

now just gotta tell the apt mngr to kiss my ****.

i hope its real stiff because that hose has a spring in it to keep it from collapsing..
