T-stat being compatible with fan switch??

Ok right now ive got a 160* t-stat and i wanted to get some info bout this before i go and do anything. I want to get a fan switch but not sure which one to go with or if it would be better getting a 180* t-stat. Ive got the choice of having the switch turn the primary fan on at 176 and of at 166......or having it turn on at 200 and off at 185. Ive got to change the gooseneck(t-stat housing) anyways....so putting a different t-stat in isnt a prob. I just wanted to get anyones info bout this before i do it. Thanks

Torch.........I have a 1992 Firebird and have a 200* C-4 Corvette fan switch in mine with a 180* stat....autozone carries it for less than $20.00 heres the part number for it....#36669 for 1991 C-4 Corvette 5.7 liter......on at 200* off at 185*.....it might have to be ordered if its not in stock........it has never given me any problems so far..........something for you to think about........

Torch.........On expressway driving it stays at 180* all day long at speeds of 55 miles and over......since its winter time and very cold outside here in Chicago.... city driving gives me a good amount of heat without burning up my feet and if I had a 195* in it i'd be driving with just my socks on.....once I get over 30-35 miles per hr it says well under 200*.....very good investment for the cooling system.......try it out I think you will be happy with it..........

awsome. Thanks for the tips. Was the switch hard to put in? Im pretty sure its located on the left side of the driver's side exhaust manifold. I can see it..im just trying to find an easy way of getting at it without stripping it at all. So yeah, i think i am going to change the t-stat to a 180.....your not the first person to tell me that the 180 has a better effect then the 160. So thanks for all the tips.

snnapp.........I'm at autozones web page right now and am looking at the fan switch..........do the search yourself and you will see it come up with that part number..........1991 Corvette, 5.7 liter motor, cooling fan switch in block part number. #36669 unit price is $16.99 but is not availible in store, but you can order it online thru them and it will be shippied to your house or store thats closest to you.....thats what I did had it shipped to a store right down the street from me...you might want to register your car with them since it makes searching for parts alot easier......hope this helps you ......
