single fan

i have a 87 formula with a 305 4bbl. it a single elec. fan which is not working i think the fan itself is shot i want to wire it direct to check but i am not sure witch wire is hot it only has two black/red and black i assume it is the black/red but want to make sure thanks guys

It doesn't matter how you hook it up. If you reverse the polarity the fan will run backwards, but it will still run. Try that to make sure the fan motor is good, and then work your way up the system. IMHO don't wire the fan to run all the time, it will provide longer warm-ups and poor gas milage.

thanks i'll go try that know i was'nt going to wire it up permently just wanted to see if the motor was anygood thanks for the heads up

like a fuse or the relay.

or the temp sensor if you change that watch out for the coolant make sure its not hot i learned the hard way and wore alot of anti freeze i checked everything n it ended up bein that

jump the ALDL diagnostic pins and the fain should start up.... easier than cuttin wires...

okay the motor on the fan is good as is the fuse so witch relay is for the fan

The relay is on the drivers side of the firewall.

i think mine was around the front of the passengers side...
follow the wires...

i did all the stuff you did to your car and i thought it was my relay also but it ended up bein the temp sensor it screws into the block a little under the exhaust manifold i ordered mine from jet because i bought 3 from auto zone and none of them worked and plus the jet one comes with the new socket
