Problem with temp

Ive noticed just recently that my car has been running hot...the temp up here right now is about 60* everyday and the temp fluctuates as I drive. It used to stay just a notch under 220* with my 195* t-stat but now gets as hot as 240*+ hardly redlines but will if I'm at a stop...as long as I keep the car in motion above 35mph it will stay around 220* what the hell is wrong now? The stat is about 2 months old, the sensor is brand new, rad cap seems fine, and i dont lose coolant...water pump works alright as well..

sounds like the fan is not coming on...

did you check to see if the fan motor works with 12 volts going directly to it?

I have a fan bolted on the water pump so its constantly running...Forgot to mention that...other than that i dont know what the hell is going on...I do have a small exhaust manifold leak, which makes a ticking sound, im not sayin thats the problem but could that air comin out of there make the engine bay that hot?

you didnt mention it but make sure you have an air dam...that thing is like the most important part of cooling other than the fan, i didnt have one for a long time and then put it on and my engine temp dropped about 50*

you might try taking out your stat and putting it in hot water and checking to make sure it opens. i bought a new one and it didnt open at all. i always seem to get new parts that dont work

I agree. Buy a good stat, not the cheapest one at Auto Zone. I'd recommend the 180 degree stat. I've bought a defective stat before. If it was fine before you installed the new stat, It's safe to say, you probably got a bad one! Matt
