Is the heat shield important?

When I replaced my passenger side head gasket, that heat shield that's underneath the exhaust manifold was really kicking my ***. I managed to screw it up pretty bad and it wouldn't go back on, so I just left it off. I've driven the car about 1,000 miles since then with no problems. Should I get another one and put it on? Here is a pic of it. This isn't my engine. I saw this pic in another post and it reminded me of the heat shield! Matt

well matt i think it would be a good and i mean very good idea to replace it considering its shielding heat from wires and sensors, yes it gets hot but it absorbs the heat pretty good and helps, remember that stuff is there for a reason

i personaly wouldn't worry about it. Remember alot of stuff you don't really need you get rid of all the heat shield stuff when you get headers. so id just maybe check it after another week or two, if no damage then don't sweat it. (pun intended..)

You won't see much short term. It will eventually cook the plug boots and any wiring in the vicinity if left off for the long haul.

I still have mine from when I pulled them off the manifolds, Let me know if you want them. You can have them if you pay for shipping.
