heating up after i cut it off

heres the deal i have a 89 camaro rs with a 350 with a litle work do to it when im sitting at light in gear its stays at 190 when im going done the road its stays at 190 . i have the fan set uo to run all the time . but when i cut it off the temp jumps it to over 200 well over 200 some times to 240 and on a hot day even higher . and its makes my starter lock up till it cools off the longer it sit the hotter it gettes i know its going to go up some but that much what can i do to keep locking up my (new) starter 3rd one .i have the starter wraped in a head shield. im at a lose on what to do i just hate runing to the store going in and having to wait on the car to cool off before i can leave. what can i do email me at realfast89camaro@aol.com or drag1989@aol.com or post here any info you my have

Like you said it is normal for the temperature to go up (in the engine) after you tur off the car. Mine will go from 160* up to around 190*, and then slowly start coming down. I have no idea why yours is going higher, are you sure the gauge is accurate? Starter heat soak is a somewhat common problem, I'm surprised that the heat shield is not stopping the problem.
