Need Help A/s/a/p. over heating..

Ok. here's the situation. I've got an 89 firebird, 2.8L V-6.. The other night I was driving home from work. Noticied the car was running rough, looked at the temp guage, was pinned @ 260*.. Pulled over, let it cool for a little.. long story short, I had to stop like 5 times to get home b/c it was pinned at 260 90% of the way.. I changed the thermostat today, filled the coolant, now, my temp guage dont work, fan aint turning on, and the coolant never leaves the radiator.. I tried to check the computer codes, nothing for the temp sensor or anything like that, but while i was reading the codes, the fan went on.. That seems to be the only time it will go on..
I replaced the water pump less than a year ago..

Can someone please tell me what is going on??

check the fan relays... and the temp sensor, and the temp switch... if all else fails... rig the fan to come on with a switch or something.... If there is just NO anti-freeze going into the engine THAT is BAD... one way to check... wait until the engine gets warm ( above the thermostat temperature.. SO IT'S OPEN) and then squeeze the upper radiator hose... if there is pressure,,, It's running into the engine... if you CAN squeeze the radiator hose almost together... there is NO anti-freeze flow.. (basically that's how to check a thermostat, and that there is pressure from the radiator... ) which reminds me... CHECH THE RADIATOR CAP... if it's bad .. there will be NO pressure in the radiator.. which means NO cooling...
good luck
