i did a search on this...but didnt find what i was looking for. I have a 160' t-stat in her now...and i went out and got myself a fan switch...the kind that threads into the passenger side block. Problem is i dont have access to a lift....and if the stock one breaks in the block i will be royally fudged. Ive heard people say to change the t-stat and put a 180' in her that way the coolant will be equal with the fans. Any input on this.
i was thinking that...but i was just wondering what everyone's input was on switching t-stats.

check out willie's article in the cooling section of the tech articles, offers a very good in depth description of how to set up your cooling system.

160 is too cold for decent engine operation. A 180 would be a good choice if you want one a little lower. I don't really agree with any of this nonsense of manual switches and radical mod's. The factory setup is engineered with all factors considered. Lower fan switches simply cycle the fans more often and chew up the alternator faster. Also keep in mind that if you turn on the secondary fan sooner than the primary, BOTH fans will come on as the ECM will default when it sees a low on the secondary fan input. If the cooling system is operating properly under all but the most adverse conditions it should stay well within the safety area. I tried different setups on my as well as other TG's. All had some drawback, I simply put it back to stock and it runs fine with no overheating. I have read hundreds of posts about cooling problems and most of them are simply people trying to get around a problem with a "band aid" fix.Originally posted by TorchRay
