heating up when idleing or in heavy traffic

heating up when idleing or in heavy traffic

i have an 88 iroc, and ive got a new rad and a fairly new thermostat, and its fine when im driving, but when i sit or am in heavy traffic it heats up really bad to just below the red line, why is it doing this? what can i do to stop this?

check your fan control. See if the fans are working. If i remember correctly you can unplug the fan from the wiring harness the fan and the fan should stay on when you turn your car on. But i am not sure. The other thing i would check. If the fans work is the Fan control switch. Which turns your fans on when the temp reaches a certain temp.

hey guy

change the fan switch located on the pass head in between 6-8 cylinders

part from advance auto is a fs6 it's like 21 bucks

fan kicks on at 219 degrees
