Testing cooling temp sensor

Car is a 92 camaro with 305 E code engine (single fan). Is there a way to test the cooling temp sensor and if so how? I understand it is a thermistor so should I be able to test it with an ohmmeter? Does the resistance change between the two connections or between them and the ground?. Can I jumper something at the cooolant temp sensor plug to see if the fan comes on? As a side note the fan comes on fine with the a/c.
