HELP--Only getting air out of the DEFROST
HELP--Only getting air out of the DEFROST
OK I need some help...I have a 87 Camaro LT with a 305. My problem is that I only get fresh air through the defrost. I have read all the tech boards stuff about chasing the vacuum lines and everything else. All of my lines are connected to the controls and I have darn near torn the whole dash out chasing vaccum lines and checking them. I have tried to trace the master vaccum line but I don't know if I have the right ones. The ones I have followed come out on the passenger side and connect to the Quadrajet. PLEASE SOME ONE HELP....I LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA AND I NEED TO FIX THIS TO GET THE A/C WORKING AGAIN.

Have U checked the vacumn ball/reservior under the hood to see if it is holding vacumn?
What air U are getting--is it cold?

I have not checked the Vaccum ball to see if it's holding pressure or not.
How would I check the pressure of the vaccum ball?
The only air that I get is essentially the outside air. I don't have the A/C working init because the original owner removed the compressor and the lines. That idiot.

If it has one, pull the hose that is not pulling the vacumn and put your finger over the fitting and see if there is suction.

I chased this problem for some time. Finally, I discovered that the vac selector switch (on the backside of the control head) was the culprit; apparently it was leaking.

Yeah, more often than not that is the culprit! That is usually the first place I recommend to start looking.
Of course, "Hindsight is 20/20--that's why they don't make glasses to fit your butt!"
Glad U got it fixed!

I appreciate the help...I'm going to check the vaccum resevoir to see if that's the problem. If not I guess I'll try replacing the controls. Any one know where I can find a compressor and the 2 line that connect to it?

there is actually another vac. line over there somewhere. I had the same problem with mine, that is only got air out of the defrost. find the other vac. line and hook it up. you made need some fittings that go from big to small or the other way around.
