I have a 91 Firebird, 305 V8, TBI. Single fan.

I looked through the posts to see if I could find anyone else that had this problem, but none to be seen.

The car runs well below the 220 mark when I am driving. If I sit at idle in the car it will start to heat up after about 10-15 minutes. It will keep heating up till I start moving...even then it doesn't recover very quickly, unless I get on the freeway.

......but, if I open my hood when I am sitting at idle, I can sit there forever (over an hour), and it will never heat up...even with the A/C on. It will sit well below the 220 mark....I would guess around 180?

The fan is on a switch that kicks it on around 170 and the fan and motor are both brand new. (The heating problem has been around for years.)

Not sure of a fix....drill holes in the hood? I already removed the rear hood seal.

hmm, you sure the water pump is up to par? and have you checked the obvious things like tstat, hoses, any blocks in the lines or anything like that?

also you sure your gauge is accurate? our stock gauges are absolutely terrible so try replacing the coolant temp sensor, and the sending unit
