Need a few questions answered
Hey, I've been working all summer on a 305 tbi 88' camaro. I have almost everything setup, but it is overheating. I believe it is a problem with the fan, because when I hotwire the fan to the battery it runs extremely cool. Someone told us to drill a hole in out thermostat to fight heat, so with the fan on full-blast it runs at 150 degrees. My question is, at what temp should the fan come on? Also, I have a single fan, is this normal?
Basically, I need to know anything that will help my engine run cooler. I don't believe it is a problem with the radiator or coolant because it can obiously get very low if the fan is running constantly. Any tips or advice?

well I have a single fan and it runs n cools my 355 excellent.
however, I have it ran off manually from a toggle switch controlled by me and I turb it on a lil before 190.
Drilling holes into the stat is a good thing, it also helps keep away the underestimated air pockets from forming. Those alone can cause an engine to heat up badly.
There are different senors that when at the right heat, open the electric current to the fan causing it to come on but i never had any luck with the sensors, they always go bad and i would recommend u hook up the fan to a switch n watch teh gauges like a hawk.
