Engine slow to warm-I need some heat

I have a 92 RS with a 305 motor. Motor was slow to warm so put in a new thermostat. Motor is still slow to warm. Gets a little warm after 5 miles with an outside air temp of 40 degress. Anything else that would cause the problem?

It takes another 2-3 miles to warm up completely.

Anyway we could get minutes instead of miles? at 60mph 3 miles is 3 minutes.. not enough time to warm up a V8

if your like me 120mph .. 30 seconds per mile... 3 miles a minute and a half... Definetaly not enough time to warm up.

If you like my grandpa..30 miles an hour 3 miles 6 minutes.. almost enough time to warm up

If your like my grandma well them... 15mph she goes 3 miles 12 minutes and thats just about right for warm up hehehe..

Heheh the smart *** comments aside.. I let my 350 warm up about 5 minutes in the drive way at idle, enough to get oil up into the heads..its not warm yet..I drive to the stop sign, maybe 1.5 minutes.. its not warm... drive 3 miles (seriously) at about 60 mph, then its wamr and up to stable op temp...so anywhere from ten to 15 minutes and my 350 is at operating temp..

If you jump out and start driving with no stop and go (just crusing at any speed) you got wind through the engine compartment and it takes a lot longer to warm up.. if your doing stop and go its going to warm up a lot quicker.,..on cold morning its takes alog time

So how long time wise does it take to get hot, or does it ever get to operating temp?

The big question is what temp. thermostat do you have? My car never really warms up good the whole trip to work but that is because I put in a 160* thermostat. If you have a 180* try putting in a 195* for the winter if it isn't responding. That is a little high in my book but hey they make em.

What's slow to warm up? the engine or the heater? Your core could need a good back flush, that should help alot! I didn't think Texans needed a heater! Sounds like you need a girl friend!
