Dual Fans,but only one working???
Under the hood of my 88 GTA i have the dual electric radiator fan set up.I noticed when its time for the fans to kick on,only the fan closest to the driver side has been kicking on.The second fan hasnt been kicking on.I tested the second fan by touching the wires to the battery and i know the second fan is not broke. Now my question is,shouldnt both fans be kicking on at the same time,or does the second one only kick on if the car gets so hot???

2nd fan comes on higher temps....or when a/c is on i believe.....don't quote me on that a/c one though....
yeah second one (passengers side) comes on at higher temps that usually u never get too, mostly their when the a/c ss turned on the pressure switch activates it and both fans usually come on when a/c is on.
the other parts thats hooked to the passengers side fan is the fan switch with is like 238 or close to that temp is turns on the fan by grounding out the relay.
thats located between the 6 and 8 cyclinders.
so: things to look at, fan switch is hooked up (one wire connection)
maybeeven swapped relays to make sure that its not broke or froze up.

OK thanks a lot guys.Do you guys think it would be a bad idea to wire the second fan so it comes on with the first fan???Thanks...Al in NJ
not bad, but really wouldnt be needed i think, my fan is hardly on at all anymore because after putting in a 180 stat its cool on the highway and when in traffic has a good bit if time before it starts to move up to like 220 and then traffic usually gets moving again.
i would maybe just wire in a manual fan switch, really nice to have for when at the track to keep as cool as possible.

Speaking of fans, I went to the ac shop yesterday for a top-up. My 84 has the new gas(R-134) and has no thermatic fan or fans. The guy says that the new gas is more dense that the old R-12. He says that the new gas needs more cooling and recommended installing a thermo fan to come on with the ac compressor. Is that good logic. I know that the later Camaros came with thermo fans and think that may be something to help get a little better colling out of my system. I have plenty of room up front. If so, would one fan or two be best? Any input would be greatly appreciated. ps I am in Australia and not everyone is familiar with these cars. You guys really help from time to time.
