ok big problem.....searched and didnt find much

91 z28 350

car overheated very badly tonight as i was letting my lady friend do donuts n stuff and when she stopped i could have cried. i saw steam pouring out from under my hood, opened it and my radiator cap was shootin steam out the pressure release hole. once this stopped there was a puddle of coolant under my car and i didnt have any way of seeing where it was coming from with a low car in the dark. i let the car sit for bout an hour 1/2 and turned it on, it must have been cooled down cause my heat wasn warn yet but my temp guage would now read higher and higher the more i step on the gas. it was pinned all the way on my ride home and would only go down when i released the gas.
im tired as hell so i cant check anything not to mention its freezing out. so im hoping im just now low on coolant but where did this puddle of coolant come from? what should i check out to see if anything blew? and why is my temp guage all messed up?

Steam turns to liquid after it cools, so the puddle may be from a defective cap. I would replace the cap, refill the system, start the car and check for leaks. Watch your temp and go from there.

could be as simple as the radiator cap. but definitelty was overheating which is pretty bad, could be the t-stat stayed closed also.

I would do what Lonestar said in the day time and see whats going on.

alright i checked it out and it took an entire bottle of coolant to fill my radiator which solved my temp guage problem and i havnt drivn much today to see if it stays at my normal opp temp and not rise. let the car warm up with the cap off to make sure there was no air bubbles and then put cap back on. im not sure if my cap is defective now but for the time being it doesnt seem to be leaking any more.
thanks for the help

one other thing, i remember reading on a post about a total fan control system where with the flip of 2 switches i can turn on both fans manually and with the flip of a 3rd switch i can bring back the computer to control my fans like stock. does anyone remember this post?can they send me a link.

If you've boiled it over then you should flush the system fully asap or you'll get sediment cloggin your system.
