Overheating problems

My freind has a 1985 V6 Camaro. The car likes to over heat, but we can not figure out for what reason. If you put anti-freeze in, it disappers, but the car does not show, or smell like it is burning anti-freeze, and then oil is still it's normal color. Could the head gasket be bad, and i just don't have a good nose, or is there something that i'm missing

You might want to check to make sure the heater core isnt leaking. Thats another spot where you wouldnt see a leak. If your unsure whether you have a head gasket leak you can go to an auto parts store and pick up a little kit they have that will tell you whether exaust gas is present in the coolant or not.
