running too cool w/ 180 t-stat

ever since I removed the ac, smog and put in headers, my car never gets past the first tick mark on the gauge when the car is in motion. I had a 180 t-state w/ 2 holes drilled init and it ran way too cold. now I have a 180 w/ no holes and it runs about the same (right at or before the 1st tick) does this mean i have a faulty t-stat? is it possible to run that cool w/ a properly operating 180 stat?

I just installed a 180 stat as well. I'm right there with you at the first hash. It will heat up some sitting in tragffic, but just cruising it pretty much stays right there at the first tick.

Your guage may be a little off, and mine too, but I wouldn't be too concerned. Even though that first tick is one-half way between 100* and 220*, it does not represent 160*. Its hotter but I don't know what temperature it represents.

But, how could you be running any cooler than your t-stat temp anyway? I guess you could if it was stuck open, but I doubt its faulty since we are having such similar results.

That first tick is probably close to 180 degrees. It freaks me out some too because I;ve been running 195* stats and have never run this cool. I love it.

Hook into your ecm and you will find that the first mark is 180-185. I also have a 180* thermostat...
