Factory Block Heater - High RPM
Has anyone else had a problem with the O-ring on the factory block heater blowing out at high RPM's. My just did and I thinking just replacing it with a freeze plug. Its there any aftermarket block heaters that can take its place that somehow don't depend on just a little O-ring.

Go's in place of one of the freeze plugs, with a power cord that you can plug a extision cord into. It heats up you coolant when your car is setting out on those realy cold nights, so it dosen't freeze or take forever to heat up. My came from Dever, but I think all Police package cars got them (B4C)

I didn't think any third gens came with block heaters, maybe a dealer added option. Sounds like a good question for the history board.

I found this Wep page stating a 92 B4C with a block heater. But I've got a feeling it might be my car. I Just bought it Oct 03 and it has a lot of work done on the front end. I'll see if I can find any others.

There was a block heater on the 93 cop 350 TBI engine that I had put into my car.
I missed third and the ensuing over-rev blew the heater unit out a bit, and the o-ring type seal went popped out as well. TFG for the MSD 6Al w/rev limiter.
I seem to recall the seal being o-ring type material, but having a rectangular cross-section (though it was a bit battered by the time I saw it). The heater is only secured in the block with something that operates along the lines of a drywall toggle. The rubber ring makes the actual seal.
Anywho, I replaced it with a standard brass freeze plug- no big deal since it was on the drivers side near rear of the block.

sounds just like mine and in the same place. I just replaced it with a freeze plug still seing a antifreeze hanging around the bottom of the heater. Plus I was scared to realy step on and get stranded again with that thing in their with just a little o-ring sealing it.
