factory auxilary fan for air cleaner
my 87 iroc LG4 5 speed came with some kind of a fan connected to the air cleaner. I was told it only came on carberated 5 speed cars. the fan itself was mounted next to the battery in the fender well. blew air into the air cleaner when the engine was turned off. Any ideas why it was put there by gm?

The fans have been discussed before, though it's been awhile. Apparently, these cars were given to vapor lock and the fan was a Band-Aid. My 85 IROC was given to this problem, but a new line (the old one was twisted at the carb) wrapped in a heat shield and routed away from the alternator proved to be the answer for me. No stock fan on my car.
