ac pump clutches

i am wondering if anyone has ever put a serpentine clutch on a previously v-belt pump. i switched my car to serpentine belt and my old ac pump worked great. it looks like it may fit in the serpentine brackets too. it has all the same connectors too. so my new pump is out of an 89 with serpentine pulley. it sounds like sh*t and i dont even know if the pump is good. since i need a new serpentine clutch anyway i want to put it on my known good 87 v-belt pump. can i do this? does anyone have any info for me that i need to know before i go buy it?
