Rad bypass, how big of a cooler?

Engine: 383 roller
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: Ford 9" 3.70
Rad bypass, how big of a cooler?
I've gotta bypass the rad, so whqts the smallest I should probably go. I bought a newer style (not cooling fins) 4" x 11" 3/4" thick, and wanna make sure it will give be enough. It will be mountedi n front of the ac condenser.
