your thermostat has no relation to your prom, so no, your swap will not affect your cooling. keep it simple...start with your coolant level. if it is good, which you should have some overflow to reservior,... move to leaks. check for any leaks. if there are no leaks, move to your cap...have it tested to see if it maintains pressure, and vacuum for cool down. if that is fine, have your coolant tested. there is a scope which you drop a drop of your coolant in and it determines your protection points (freeze point to boiling point). you can also check your thermostat to make sure it opens at specified temp...keep me updated

got a new thermostat and it works now but shows the car is still over heating. i think the gauge is bad, cuz the car doenst seem to be overheating and runs good now.

if it is over heating you will notice boil over into the expansion tank (reservoir). you can aslo check to see if your t-stat works by squeezing the pressure (top) radiator hose. it should be stiff when the t-stat opens
