Looks like a two wire temp switch, some common industrial switch maybe. Wire with big terminal goes to a ground, other wire splices into the wire for the high temp switch that's on the car now. Note this new one goes into a plugged hole on the top of the water pump, might check to see that yours has this as finding a tapped hole into the water jacket is tough sometimes.

I think you just need to go with this part instead. It is the same price, comes with the switch, relay, and harness. A much better deal.

I just got this part this weekend. I have an 86 TA with 305 TPI. It works great, my fan actually comes on and keeps the car running at a nice temp. It fit right into the plug on the top of the waterpump, however I cut the knock sensor wire by mistake as Icouldnt find my switch underneath there. I just cut the wire from the fan relay switch under the air cleaner and it works great. The part is simple and really works great for me. Not sure how much different your 305 is, but mine is running cool now. I would recomend it.

1986t&a, did your SES light come on? what temp thermostat are you running and what temp does your car run at?

MY ses light has been on since i have had the car. I get a 34 code, but the MAF seems fine and it runs fine. The car runs at about 200, where is where it seems to run best. I am not sure of the lower temp one, that fan would be running all the time to keep it in sucha short temp holding. That is just my opinion, maybe it woud be better, but mine is running very good now and I am pleased.

Wouldn't buying a cooler fan switch for the one in the pass side of block be better instead of "hacking" this stuf on our cars??? by installing one of the kits above it basically puts the switch that is on the pass. side block out of work.....

I think the advantage of this switch is also that it is easier to install. The underneath of our cars is pertty cramped. This switch was very easy to put in, and as stated the ecm doesnt control this so basically the stock part is just sitting there "dead". If you put a new switch in the original spot, it requires draining fluid and can get pretty messy.

Thats true. I have an advantage though. My 355 is finished on the stand, the 305 is out and I am cleaning up the engine bay. No mess for me!!!

Well now I'm thinking of buying the one that is adjustable. A friend of mine seems to think that the fans will be running all the time in this nasty summer heat (90*+)
1986T&A, how much are your fans running with that original switch I posted up? Also, what temperature is your t-stat that you are using with this kit?

I think it is like 170, not sure how mcuh the fans run, but the temp is stayingnice and even. But the car never gets hot running down the highway so I would imagine the fans not runnugn then, running around town, I am sure it is on alot to keep it cool. But hte temp doesnt fluctuate.

Funny, I was shopping through Summit.com. That same kit is listed on Summit just like that 180 on, 210 off.
I don't know.
