K&n throttle body air filter

I am interested in getting the K&N throttle body air filter and completely getting rid of the stock air box. I own a 1989 formula 350, but this filter only clamps to a 90-92 throttle body without modification, it says that it will work with 85-89 TPI that has been converted to speed density. I dont have alot of knowledge about the newer speed density setup. How do I convert it so I can use this air filter? and has anybody used it and how did it work for them? Thanks , Randy

WOW!

Geewiz, you want to convert to speed density just so you can install an air filter on the end of the throttle body? I don't think I would go through all that work just for an air filter. Just live with the MAF sensor setup and install a good cold air intake setup, alot less headache and it will pull in cool air instead of hot air blowing off of the radiator. Just my 2 cents. Larry.

filters

Thats cool, those air filters on the end do look pretty good. The easiest thing to do would be to install a cold air kit though and keep the MAF system on the car. I believe it is SLP that offers a cold air kit for the Firebirds. Do some searching and you may be able to find more info on it, I believe that there are alot of people on here that have made their own cold air kits for their Firebirds also, that may be another option to look into if you are on a budget. Hope that helps, Larry.
