'89 RS A/C problem, hot smokin' liquid line

Checked system and recharged, pressures are right on the money. When I turn on the A/C the liquid line gets smokin hot and the high side pressure goes to 200 PSI! So hot that the insulation looks melted. The pressure switch is cycling the fan as intended, I'm just not sure that it is coming on soon enough. The pressure switch in the line is normally closed, when I pull the wire, the fan starts. I'm more familliar with residential systems and in that case the liquid line NEVER gets hot unless there is a problem. Is this a normal condition, or is my pressure switch bad? What if I wired a normall closed relay in parallel with the compressor to cycle the fan instead. That way the fan runs with the compressor, not on head pressure. What do you think?

200 PSI is fine. my car runs around 210 or so at idle.
depending on how hot it is, the blower motor speed inside the car, where the car is, & air flow through the condenser when you check the pressures, i have seen as high as 240~250 PSI on the high side with R-12, even higher with 134.
of course the more air flow through a good condenser the lower you can get the high side pressure & the better it will cool with a full charge.
the liquid line will get very hot on a properly working system, hot enough to blister you in an instant if you touch it.
i prefer the condenser fans to be on anytime the A/C is turned on, unless im on the road above 30~35 MPH, that speed or faster the fan does nothing except pull power from the alt & wear itself out.
