starter motor?

I want to replace my battery cables and the contacts at the solenoid and starter and possibly replace the starter. First question, whats a better than stock starter that i should install. Secondly is it feasible to do maintainence on the starter by only jacking it up. Ive been under with the car jacked up and with the right wheel off and i could barely reach the starter. Anyone know any methods for doing this without a lift.

I put a powermaster xs series starter on my modified 355 and it's work good. I did it with the car supported on jack stands in the garage. I did need to take the drivers side y-pipe off of my SLP headers to drop the old starter but it wasn't had to do at all.

thanks! How about a heat shield since it is so close to the headers or is it overkill?
