coolant drain plug

I have a 1994 Trans Am and am trying to drain the coolant from the block. The drain plug is a 9/16" but it is on there tight. Do I risk using a cheater bar to break the drain plug loose and maybe break the plug? Has anyone else had trouble with breaking it loose? I haven't tried the knock sensor yet.

Try heating it up with a torch first, perhaps. After you get it out, replace it with a petcock to avoid having this problem again.
