Dual Fan operation?

I did some searchin around and couldnt really find anything to answer my question. Neither of my fans come on, the car runs very well and doesnt overheat, until im stopped and idling and then the heat climbs on up. The fan will come on when I jump the computer port, so I know at least one fan motor is good. Just replaced the relay and going to try the coolant temp sensor(even tho its relativly new). My question, other than trying to figure out whats wrong, is does the secondary fan only come on when the switch on the pass side head tell it too and does the primary fan have to be on for the secondary one to come on also? Thanks for any info!

Secondary fan is set at 225* F by the ECM or if the AC is on (from what I recall by memory). I don't think it comes on at the same time as the primary (hence the name).

I understand that, basically what im trying to figure out, is if the primary fan has to be on first before the secondary can turn on at its designated temperature. Trying to figure out if I just might have a problem with the primary fan or if both are screwed up somehow. Thanks!

Did some checkin around, replaced the 20A fuse by the relays, all the wires check good for continuity. The fan comes on if I put the computer in diagnostic mode, so Im assuming that means the grounds are good from the computer to the fan and that the motor works. Should I be hunting for a bad ground? Just looking for whichaway to go from here, thanks for any help!

Havent really found the problem, but whats weird, I had shut if off last night while my wife got the kid from the babysitters, so I turn the key forward to listen to the radio, and the fan comes on?

On my 89, the secondary fan will run without the primary coming on and the high temp sensor will actually turn on both fans, at about 135 degrees, way hot. And both fans run on the AC high pressure switch. Grounding that single wire on the passenger side sensor in the head should make one or both fans come on for sure.
