It's a small little box on the firewall, driverside, to the right of the wiper pump. Has the wires previously described coming out.

Which fan? The blower fan or the radiator fan? I need to locate the relay for the radiator fan.

Heres a picture of the COOLANT FAN RELAY. It's the one in the middle with the previously described colored wires. Located driverside upper firewall. Happy Hunting, and remember this is a picture from a 1984 Z28, don't know about anyother year.

Okay, sorting through my wire harness I have traced that wire to that relay and where it once went to the ECM. I do think that it was linked to a fuse mounted on the passenger fender well. What was the purpose of this fuse?

I have the electronic blueprints for these vehicles so looking up what went where is no problem. I need to know what model Camaro/Firebird, engine size, dual or single fan. Please try and described better what wire you are talking about. It would help if you could post a picture. At least I need to know what color the wire is. If it's dirty clean it off to find the true color and if it has a stripe.

Here is a picture of the ecm sensors and such. You may find what you're looking for here. Download it so you can get a close up view with whatever picture viewer program you use.

I have a 91 that came with the LO3. I need to take a look at what colors the wires actually are. This fuse had a wire running to it, then a wire running right back from where it came.

I want to think that they are orange, but not positive.

Then my diagram wont help because it's for a 1982-84 Camaro. But it gives you an idea of how to search for the wire you're curious about. If it's an orange wire, and it's stock... not something added by a previous owner then its "hot" meaning it supplies electricity at some point in the vehicles operation. It could be constant or imtermittent, like when the ignition is turned on or when the door is opened and the interior light comes on... you get the idea.

But I see you're putting in a 355 vortec engine? Are these wires going to even come into play. You're not going to need the ECM anymore are you? Would'nt you buy an aftermarket module to control the engine? I've never switched out one of these engines but I always thought that if I did I would be rid of all that stuff.

I have ditched the ECM. I'm still working on sorting out what I need and what I don't need. I am buying a new temp switch and I am going to use the existing relay to run the electric fan. Most of what is in there I won't need. There must be at least 1000 wires running around in that engine bay. Fan and fuel pump are on the radar for now. As soon I can find enough time, I will be placing power on what is in there and seeing what is hot and what is not. The I'll drop the engine in a find the rest of what I need.

That orange wire had several things spliced to it. I know it run to a relay and it ran to the ECM.

i`ve got several different relays all over the place that look like what you guys have described.the relay by the firewall with the orange wire.the wire is just hanging off the relay and not connected to anything is this a problem?

Well, the wire you're holding looks like a previous owner put it there I'm assuming if you don't know where it goes. At one time there must have been another piece to it because thats a splice connector at the tip. Where does it go? what doesn't work on the car?. You also need to get a diagram and view it and see what's missing and what's not hooked up. Try the one I posted.

Hmmm, does that by chance run into the firewall on the driverside? Kinda in front of the fenderwell below the master cylinder? Or is it hooked up to that relay in pic?

it`s hooked up to the relay that you see in the pic.i still can`t find out where this wire plugs into.the previous owner used to have aan alarm system hooked up but it didn`t work.

I too had an alarm hookud up. There was a wire coming through the firewall that looked similiar to that. It had the started disable and what not. My wiring harness looks like scrambled eggs right now so I couldn't look to see if mine was similiar. It was a dealer installed alarm with starter disable on top of the vats.
