Could air cleaner effect cooling???

First off, I have had no recent problems with my cooling system. Today, I went to Advanced to replace the extremely dirty air filter on my 14in open element air cleaner. They didn't have any replacement air filters there for that size, so I got a new air cleaner assembly with a 9-inch element. After I put it on and was driving around today, I noticed my temp has been around 220(usually runs about 180-190). BTW- this is at night not during the heat of the day. Could my new air filter for some reason cause this problem.

Plenty of coolent in radiator and water pump, stat, and hoses are all new.
