I have checked continuity from the cooling fan to the relay on my 86 trans am and it is okay. Every time I put a fuse in for the the fan motor it blows as soon as I turn on the key. Anyone ever had a relay go bad that would cause a short?

Relays probably won't blow fuses, dying fans will though.

I have the wiring disconnected at the relay and it still blows fuses,so I am thinking it has to be something between the fuse box and the relay.

That's the very definition of a pinched wire. Just track it down and repair it.

I bought the car with a salvage title as a hobby project and the heater core had just been changed . The water pump was leaking and I changed it and the thermostat.I just got it running again and was working on the carb when I noticed the temp climbing and the fan not kicking on,which is what led me to check fuses. And here I am.I will check it out and let you know what I find. Thanks for the input.

found the short,it was where the wire went through the firewall,so I ran a new wire and all is well for the moment. Now to a new thread that deals with carbs and adjusting
