Fusible Link? What is it, and is it replaceable? (burnt connector that controls fan/
Hey Guys, I noticed my fans werent coming on today at all. I searched, and read all the cooling posts here. Long story short, I found this wire attached to my positive battery terminal, that goes into like a thin barrel shaped connector. I try to disconnect it, and it was fried. I finally got it apart, and temporarily hooked it up, and the driverside fan comes on. Like it always used to. It definitely controls the fan/fans, because when I disconnect it, the then the fan one fan doesn't run. The barrel thing looks just like a connector (male-female). Can I cut the connector totally out, and just connect the two wires? Or can i purchase a new connector at Autozone, etc. Is this like a fusible link?? Basically I want to know if it is replaceable.
Thanks
Mike

it defiantly sounds like a fusible link. you do want to replace it, just splicing the wires together without it could cause you big problems later on.
you should be able to find one at autozone, i think it will be in the "HELP" section.

I don't know about 3rdgen fan circuits but since no one else is stepping up I will. IF it is a fusible link, it needs to be replaced with the same gauge and length link. If you can't tell what gauge it is by looking, then you should get a wiring diagram that shows what gauge it is. I'm guessing 14, maybe 12, I don't know.
A fusible link is an overcurrent protection device. It is to protect your wiring from burning out by burning out first. You may have a short to ground somewhere and if its not fixed the replacement link will also fry. But I am just speculating because I don't know how these things are wired.
By the way, Florida isn't on the west coast.

Hey Chesterfield, thanks man. What I did, was go to the bone yard, and I got an identical fusible link off a wrecked GTA. So it is fixed now. Thank ***. LOL at West Coast!
But I am on the West Coast of Florida. Just about in the Gulf Of Mexico
